Previously, a photo-editing online platform ‘Pixlr’ was instructed as a piece of cake. This time, Li Yen-Chiu (李燕秋) brought this predominant software – Photoshop – into the workshop. Now let’s take a look at how practical the application is!
1> What is Photoshop?
Photoshop (PS) is a graphic editing software developed by Adobe Systems Incorporated, which is an American software corporation. It is suitable for image processing.
2> Create from Pictures
Several relevant photos could be collected for the very first time in order to apply to Photoshop for the next step. For instance, you need to make a poster to promote the Golden Rain Festival for National University of Tainan (NUTN) in May, 2017[u3] . What can you do? Here are four simple steps to take:
think about the outline of your poster
sketch your blueprint
choose some photos with golden rain trees/leaves
merge into an image
3> Design by Photoshop
At the initial stage, combining images is the basis to create your works.

Dragging and dropping copied images is the next step, but you need to know copy and paste[1] in addition.
Attention
CITE each source!
Beware of the protection in intellectual property e.g. copyright (©). We had better cite the source of materials as complete as possible even if they are Creative Commons[2] (CC).
[1] See Appendix – Top Hotkeys for PS
[2] Creative Commons (CC): a platform for sharing, recreating or advertising literary property.
Removing background is the most important part of image editing. (Images may be feathered in pictures sometimes. Bézier curve is the top technique to imitate particularly for hairline[u1] .) Numerous special effects in Photoshop could be also applied to every piece of work in various contingencies.
Last but not least, try to customise your final image. Not only capture people’s eyes but please their mind is your best achievement to make everything possible, visible and incredible.
Merge → Edit → Refine → Customise
Sounds like a piece of cake! It is really easy for anyone to follow these tips. Try to design your own works, decide cool effects on photos, and discover how great you are.
4> Show your Piecework
After retouching images, it is good to collect your works of art into portfolios no matter how they are masterpieces. You can share with your acquaintances, colleagues or even experts to let them give you some reflections, comments and suggestions.
